Swaplifters are people who engage in a swap but will not send their part of the deal. Then they vanish into thin air with your item, leaving you empty handed. This is out of our control since the power of the internet can make bad people seem good. Here are some tips to avoid and identify these SWAPLIFTERS.
1. SWAPLIFTERS WILL NEVER CONSIDER MEETING UP WITH YOU
- They will insist that you ship the item, even if you are willing to go out of your way for the two of you to meet- up. He/She will come up with tons of reasons to not meet up with you. Do not get too excited on an item. If the swapper has this trait, we suggest that you look for another item and swapper
2. SWAPLIFTERS WILL REQUIRE MONEY
- They might ask for money in exchange of the item plus your item for swap. Sometimes, they would give a very nice item at a price that's too good to be true. They will tell you that they have to unload the item and they will sell it at a cheap price. Some might even use financial problems as a reason. If the seller is like this, then look for another swapper.
3. SWAPLIFTERS WILL NOT PROVIDE ACTUAL PICTURES
- If the swapper cannot provide an actual picture, and would give you tons of reasons for him/her to not provide an actual picture, then this swapper is dubious. Look for another swapper.
1. DO A THOROUGH BACKGROUND CHECK
- Ask if the swapper has another account in another forum, an account on ebay, facebook, multiply, etc. Then do check if this seller has a good background or not.
2. ASKING FOR BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS CAN SECURE YOUR DEAL AT 50%
- You can explain your side to the seller if your asking for his/her bank account details. Tell them that it is for safety purposes only. If the swapper won't provide any of the bank account details, and if you are dubious about the swapper, but you really like the item, we highly suggest that you arrange for a meet- up. That's the only way to know if the swapper is legit or not.
3. IT IS WISE TO KNOW YOUR FELLOW SWAPPERS
- We have provided a chit chat board for the members so feel free to know them thoroughly. And it better to swap with people that you know and trust online.
4. CHECK THE PICTURES FOR AUTHENTICITY
- If the provided picture is actual but you see watermarks (e.g. Ebay watermark), we highly suggest that you ask from the swapper where he/she got the item. If it has an ebay watermark, the swapper should have an ebay account. If not, then chances are, you are dealing with a swaplifter. If the swapper provided an actual picture, but your instinct tells you that there's something fishy about the swapper, then do background checks and search the picture of the item on the internet.
